About this trip

An unforgettable trio of operas in iconic settings. "La Traviata" and "Carmen" at the stunning Arena di Verona under the stars, followed by "Norma" (a Druid priestess torn between duty and love) in the world renowned Teatro alla Scala.

Apart from the operas, there will be time to see some of Verona's wonderful medieval architecture and Milan's sophisticated shopping districts & Duomo - a Gothic masterpiece.

Both cities celebrate their local wines and special culinary delights. Verona with its 'risotto all'Amarone, polenta and pastissada de caval and for the Milanese cuisine -  risotto alla Milanese, cotoletta, and ossobuco. Sample them if you can!

Very good
By George C for Epsom / Barnes / Teddington - Prague Tour - extra nights on Jul 18, 2025
Great to see fellow Opera Club members again. The hotel was good, well placed for sightseeing, being near Wenceslas Square, and the staff were very helpful. Both the Prague State Opera House and the National Theatre, where we saw Tosca, Turandot and La Bohème, have spectacularly decorated interiors. The three opera productions were traditional in scenery and costume design. The role of the Prince of Persia in Turandot (a non-singing part) was interpreted in an original way in dance. The singing of the mainly Czech casts in all three operas was of good quality with several outstanding arias. We had an informative tour of Prague city centre with its attractive buildings, going inside the Cathedral and the Castle with our guide. After being driven back across the river, our guide showed us, on foot, the Old Town Square with its cobblestones, baroque churches, rococo palace, brightly coloured buildings and Astronomical Clock which, at over 600 years old, still chimes on the hour. A short distance away, we had a delicious lunch in the main restaurant of the Municipal House with its glorious Art Nouveau designs. We were able to discover more of Prague on our own the following day. On the penultimate day we were driven East to the medieval city of Kutná Hora, which became the seat of the royal mint in 1308, due to its silver mine, and rivalled Prague until the silver ran out in the 16th century. Now a Unesco World Heritage Site, it has a range of historic sights. We visited the silver mine museum with intrepid members going into the dark tunnels with their very low ceilings. After a typical Czech lunch in an Old Bohemian wood-panelled beer hall, we returned to the city for the opera. The well organised tour gave us an excellent experience of Prague where the buildings are impressive and the inhabitants are welcoming.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Puccini in Prague! Wonderful operas, beautifully sung and superb staging. Our hotel was great and all the trips were a pleasure with lovely lunches in good company. It was great to meet old friends and making new ones.

A first class tour with nothing to curb our enjoyment. The quality of the three operas was second to none. And Musica Europa’s flair for organisation and imaginative programming ensured that all participants were on the receiving end of a most professional and enjoyable experience.
